Treatment

 TRAP- a brief outline

I am aiming to direct a film trailer for the film , titled 'trap' which is in the genre of crime/social realism. the film will be focused on gang culture set in London's estates and will foucus alot on class and status as well as ethnicity as these are key conventions of my films topic. I want the audience to become engaged in the reality of the film and perhaps relate and familiarise to some situations and issues brought up in the film. as a social realism crime film it will follow the conventions of typical crime films with criminal activity, weapons, violence. however I am not aiming to create a cliché typical crime film as I want this to be focused on the reality of it rather than extreme action. I am going to make the film packed full of suspense, this will be advertised through the trailer.

The film starts by introducing the setting by contrasting the nice wealthy parts of the city that most people are familiar with compared with the rough rundown estates in the suburbs where a lot of gangs operate. The main character, Micheal is then introduced in a slow motion shot as a young child picking up a gun that he finds at home. The film is about how Micheal follows the path of his older brother who was killed. Being brought up and raised by his older brother in an east London estate he is surrounded by crime. At 17 when his brother is killed he finds himself in a lot of trouble and has no choice but to drop out of college and find his own way of living as he has no one to look after him now his brother has been killed. Micheal quickly finds himself caught up with his brothers boys as they are the only people he can turn to.

Micheal gets trapped in with the gang life and starts to become involved with a lot of crime which is the main idea behind the films title, 'Trap'.The film will show the story of this time in his life through Micheals perspective, and his voice will narrate parts of it, which will aid the audience to relate to the situations going on and how he is feeling. He sees this as a good opportunity to find his brothers killer (his boss) who is a wealthy businessmen and was also in charge of his brother who he eventually hunts down and kills. The film will end with extreme close ups of Michael being handcuffed and his voice as the voice over talking to the audience. the voice over will basically be explaining how you cant be led down the wrong path in life because this is what can happen.

I want my production to reach out to young people in the UK especially young boys coming from similar backgrounds as they are most vulnerable to situations like this.

Trailer

The trailer will consist of lots of action shots and interesting close up shots to generate suspense. combined with suitable sound effects. The trailer will start in silence with establishing shots of London in sunrise, this introduces the location nice and clearly and also creates the feeling of the beginning or the start of a day. The shots will be of the nice stereotyped London that we mostly see in the media because I want to create a juxtaposition between the opening shots and the next shots to exaggerate and show the parts of London the film will be set in and focused on. The first shots of the city in the early hours of the morning will be sped up at high speeds so the audience gets a feeling of the city's busy lifestyle and also because I really like the effect especially during sunrise and in busy areas of London because the shot is full of energy which could hook the audience into the trailer. soft sounding peaceful music will fade into the trailer when a slow motion shot of a young child playing with a gun is displayed, the young child is the main character Micheal in the past. The voice over will then start, "from a day one, I knew id use a gun". after this the trailer switches by introducing a grime or trap soundtrack which I have not decided yet, this will set the mood of the genre and will match the shots nicely. the rest of the trailer will consist of action shots from the film and will be fast edited to  create a lively energetic advert without giving any of the story line away. The music will stop and the trailer will end with a close up shot of Micheal shooting a gun, in sync with the gun shot the films title will be displayed.
