Quantitative data-Survey results.

 In order to get a greater understanding about what the target audience will be like for my production i have conducted a small survey in which i sent out to over 50 people from the ages of 15-25. i aimed to get an even number of the age groups and also made sure it was sent to exactly 25 males and 25 females to get an accurate result as into what age group and gender my target audience will be. A total of 23 people out of the 50 chose to answer the survey which was sent out with the subject as, "if you are interested in social realism films about gangs and crime, please answer." this means that the people who chose to answer the survey are those who are interested. this allows me to find my target audience. Although i have a good idea of what type of people i will be targeting this survey will prove and conclude a target audience and what they want to see in a film of this topic.

The results show that 65% of people interested where in the age category of 15-17, 26% where 18-21 and just under 9% where 22 and above, this means my target audience is clearly going to be mainly secondary school teenagers above 15, this is because peoiple like to identify with there own age in films. Even though the film may have to have a 16+ or 18+ rating it does not stop the target audience from being 15-17 year olds because they would still be appealed to the product and would still find ways to view it. The age rating actually creates a stronger appeal for this age group. Despite the results i am still expect my product to appeal to older ages such as 20-30 because of the realistic content it will contain and the interesting, relevant topics and conventions it will include.

As expected the target gender is mostly male, this is mainly because the topics and conventions of my proposed product are highly associated with men, its going to be highly male dominated and a product that males will be able to relate to rather than the female gender. I am purposely aiming my product at young males, meaning it will appeal to a male dominated audience. However there are 56.5% males who answered and 43.5% females and that inst really too much of a difference which surprised me, clearly teenage females are interested in the genre as well. i may have to consider targeting the film at females to.

This question was asked just to see what films the target audience would be interested in,Comedy was the highest with over 82%, this is most probably because of the age and the type of people they are. It makes me think that they are probably stereotypical teenagers and young adults who like watching films and socializing. Crime and Gang films was the 3rd most popular choice with 43.5%, this is a good result because it shows a lot of people are interested. Action films where the 2nd most popular, this may mean i need to put a bit of action in the film promotions to attract the target audience.

I think this is a very important question to be asking the people because it allows me to focus on a particular answer choice to focus on and develop to make my film trailer more successful. People had a range of choices but the most popular was to "capture the mood of the film but not the story."Most people are clearly put off by the story given away and like a film trailer that captures the mood,34.8% chose this. The second most popular was "a mysterious film trailer" which is interesting,26% chose this meaning a lot of people like this aspect in a film trailer which i can understand because a sense of mystery can really build up suspense and make someone want to go and watch the film

This question was asked in order for people to answer the next two questions, i want to find out what appeals people to watch products like these and what puts people off. i used these existing products as examples because my product will be inspired by these and will be in the same genre. 78.2% said they do like watching crime/gang films.

Those interested in the genre where directed to answer this question, the most common answer was suspense and reality, this is a really good result because from the very start when i developed the idea i ve wanted my product to convey reality and to be filled with suspense, this is why i chose to explore the social realism genre and its clearly popular. People also like to see action and violence which i need to use in my trailer to attract the target audience, what i really need to focus on is showing the reality of the product and suspense.

 

This shows me what puts people off which is very useful because it allows me improve my ideas and to shape them in a way that will attract the audience and not put them off. i now know that i need to focus on the story line a lot, and perhaps interview some people in the target audience in order to develop my story line to make it even more appealing. I also need to make sure its very realistic and perhaps not too violent because 10.5% of people are actually put off by violence. 

To summaries, my target audience is a younger mostly male audience. I need to focus on targeting teens from the age of 15-18 but also young adults under 30 because i know this will appeal to that age as well. Following my target audience research i will make a target audience profile for my product.
